London Nightshots on the snowy evening of February 2, 2009:

1) North Bank, looking from Westminster Bridge towards Hungerford Bridge

2) The Eye from Westminster Bridge

3) The Eye from Hungerford Bridge

4) The Eye and Westminster from Hungerford Bridge

5) Westminster from Hungerford Bridge

6) County Hall (Thames South Bank, right next to the Eye)

7) Houses of Parliament, from Westminster Bridge

8) The base of the Big Ben

And two "fun" shots
9) Lonely Snow Imp on the railing of Westminster Bridge

10) I had read all kind of horror stories about the London Police harassing photographers for taking pictures from "strategic objects". My own experience was to the contrary. The Police officers were very nice to all photographers around, made some small talk to check we were OK and even stood very still when I asked them to pose for a shot (1/2 sec !)

All shots were A700 + kit lens from a lightweight/flimsy tripod

^^^^^ makes me re-think my kit lens, also the fact that I need to travel to London before I die, stupid USD being so weak

Not bad at all Pegelli. Good performance by the kit lens (and man behind it of course). 4 is my favourite.

Very nice set. The snow adds an unusual flavor to them all.

Well done Pieter!

(I do see some horizons that are not straight.)

Thanks for the comments. I really have to thank BobJ for "rediscovering" the kit lens. I had not used it for a long time, but took it out again for the Feb Pic-a-day #1 challenge, which was happening that week. So I had no other choice . Fortunately I have a pretty decent copy that came with my new KM5D in 2006. The only thing I wonder is if some of the blue flare in the Eye shots is due to hazy atmospheric effects, or is caused by lens flare. Probably the only way to find out is to go back on a clear night.

Thanks brettania, I only noticed your post today as I we were typing our posts here right at the same moment looking at the time/date stamp.

I indeed had some trouble with straight horizons on these shots, and wherever possible I used the buildings near tghe middle to straighten and get those exactly vertical. Sometimes a horizon doesn't look straight but that it can also be a riverbank at an angle which is not supposed to be straight .

Any specific ones you want me to take a look at. I'm similarly allergic to non-horizontal pictures as you are (mostly to the chagrin of my family members ) so any pointers would be appreciated.

#3 is to me downhill from left to right, but you may be correct about using the buildings in the others -- and night views are possibly a bit deceptive. It is good that I had to view them again, as I can apologise for making a sweeping generalisation.
