Things I have learnt taking night shots:
1: remember to turn off steady shot when using a tripod. 2: remember to remove lens filters to reduce unwanted lens flare 3: Strong wind is the enemy 4: When shooting on man made structures (bridges, jetties etc..) beware heavy footed pedestrians. An early effort of a long exposure night shot: Perth city lights 2 by benevolent_son71, on Flickr |

I know what you mean, but when you have been using it for as long as I have, I don't notice how heavy it is! My usual night kit includes my SAL18-55mm & my MinO100-400APO, which is not too light either, I believe it keeps me grounded.
Thanks for your comments, much appriciated. |

Loved the colours and clarity in this one! Makes me think I should take my 28-135 along more often. The problem is, on the very rare occasions I'm somewhere I could try for a scene like this I'm on vacation, and likely only have my Joby Gorillapod SLR zoom with me. And the 28-135 makes for such a front heavy outfit that it may not be up to supporting it properly. That plus the weight of the 28-135 to start with and going no wider than 28mm are the drawbacks. |
