Things I have learnt taking night shots:
1: remember to turn off steady shot when using a tripod.
2: remember to remove lens filters to reduce unwanted lens flare
3: Strong wind is the enemy
4: When shooting on man made structures (bridges, jetties etc..) beware heavy footed pedestrians.
