The former coal-mine and coking plant in Germany has been transformed into a large park.
The site hosts festivals and also offers walking paths between buildings and structures and a mining Museum. I stayed in a hotel located within the park.

Hi Domien,

These are great images and this looks to be a really interesting development of what could have been a very unsightly relic of days gone by.

I love the stairs! Someone, somewhere, had a vision there to make something very ordinary into something bordering on the extraordinary and you've captured these really well - such a vibrant colour! Of the exterior shots, #'s 3, 12. 13 and 14 - I like the impact the colour in the ponds adds to #12 and the combination of the chimneys and the billowing clouds in #14 adds a sense of how it may have been all those years ago,

Inside the plant, other than the stairs already mentioned, then #4 gives a real sense of scale while #11 - The Chute - again give an idea of how large these places were and the activities they undertook. I like the splashes of light on the substructure which brings out the texture of the sheet metal - a nice touch.

I'd have spent hours here and would probably have had to be dragged from the place looking at this; I just wish we had something similar here in the UK where obsolete or abandoned doesn't mean it has to fall into ruin and neglect.

Thanks for sharing these and best regards, Neil.

Unsurprisingly the buildings look very industrial, the later additions are quite clear; as is visible in #7, and also the beautiful stairs in #5 and 6.
The b&w works well here, maybe you could consider a b&w version of #12. TFS Domien

A really fascinating place and excellent shots to depict it! This coal mine is in amazingly good shape! Love the stairs, #9 and #13 in particular! #10 gives you the idea that B/W would work very well for the whole set.

Great work, Domien!

Fascinating images Domien! Those stairs, wondefully vibrant, love them!

What a great place, I love old industrial settings, and as Neil points out, there's nothing on this scale in UK. Very well documented.

Thank you so much
It is a breathtaking environment, where large sections of the original equipment remain intact, now intertwined with lush plants growing over them. Exploring the entire area in just one day was simply impossible.
I can highly recommend a visit.

Great series Domien. I love these old industrial sites.
Might be a nice place for a next Dyxum meeting

That's what I thought. It's not that far into Germany
