manufacturer description

A standard zoom lens for the 35mm full frame format with a maximum F2.8 aperture over its entire range, from 28mm to 75mm
The appeal of this lens is that the maximum F2.8 aperture is available throughout its range of 28-75mm, the range most used often in a variety of scenes like landscape, snapshots and indoor shooting. You can easily take handheld shots in low light by combining the SteadyShot INSIDE™ function of the α camera body with the large aperture lens.

Top-class compact size and lightweight in a zoom lens with a maximum F2.8 aperture over its entire zoom range
This lens has a diameter of 77.5 (Max. diameter) and is 94 mm long, with a weight of approx. 565g. This puts it at the top of its class for a compact and lightweight zoom lens with a maximum aperture of F2.8 over the entire zoom range. This lens has a zoom locking feature that prevents the barrel from extending inadvertently due to the weight of the lens, which contributes to the camera’s portability and easy operation. It supports 67mm diameter filters.

Beautiful blur just by using the circular aperture diaphragm and a large F2.8 aperture
Attractive natural and beautiful blur from the maximum aperture area is created just by combining the circular aperture diaphragm and a large aperture. In addition, the circular aperture diaphragm reproduces small, circular point light sources as nearly perfect circles. This is true in night landscapes and also in any photo with small points of light.

Various types of aberration are well compensated using 4 aspherical and 3 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements
Use of 4 aspherical elements and 3 ED glass elements compensate the spherical aberration which is generally difficult to compensate with a large-aperture lens. At the same time, compensating the curvilinear distortion and chromatic aberration enables a descriptive performance with enhanced resolution and contrast over the full zoom range.

SAM (Smooth Autofocus Motor)
The use of a SAM (Smooth Autofocus Motor) in-lens motor directly drives the lens focus for the smoother AF operation, as compared with an AF drive built into the camera.

0.38m minimum focusing distance, 0.22 maximum magnification ratio
A minimum focusing distance of just 0.38 meters and a maximum magnification ratio of 0.22 put this lens at the top of the mid-class standard zoom lens offerings for a 35mm full frame format camera. The use of internal focusing has reduced the minimum focusing distance and also provided comfortable operation with a polarized filter, because the front element does not rotate.

Excellent Depth Perspective
With wide-angle optics and deep depth of field, this lens creates sharp, high-contrast photos that capture more detail in both foreground and background

Lightweight Design
With compact size and light weight, it’s an easy lens to carry when traveling or for long shooting sessions
