comment:I haven't tried any other macro lenses but I've heard this is as good as it gets, which does not surprise me seeing the pictures i achieve with this lens. Sharp wide open, it gets better at f5.6 where the lens outresolves the current sensors. Colors are neutral but pleasant, contrast is excellent, and bokeh wonderful. Can be used as a great portrait lens, and as a general small telephoto prime. With a 2x teleconverter results are ok stopped down to f8, and you can reach 2:1 macro . Low light focus accuracy wide open is not great - this is due to the 5D/7D , this should be improved with A700.
