ownership:I used to own this lens
compared to:
price paid:$350 (Used)
positive:Terrific IQ
Very sharp,
Nice bokeh,
Brilliant colors.
negative:Near-Useless AF, IMO
Small MF ring
Lens extension for macro doesn't seem very sturdy..
comment:Terrific IQ from this lens.. I could not say anything bad about the photos it is capable of. The deal breaker for me was the fact that it hunted horrible, and not just in low-ish light. It was better with the focus limiter, but then it was still quite slow. Without the limiter, it is nigh unbearable. I, as nearly everyone else, used it by manually focussing, however, the ring is way too small, and I didn't feel comfortable enough using it. I am very close to buying the RS version for the improvements, with the same fantastic IQ.. but I am still getting some samples from the 100/2 with extension tubes, and see how that compares to a dedicated macro.
