ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Sony 85 2.8
price paid:21500rus Rub=730$
positive:decent built
smooth focusing wheel
best close up portrait lens
no CA (ideal lens at 5.6-11)
negative:Purple frighting (strong wide open)
Difficult to adjust camera using OVF. (it is not lack of this lens but view finder does not show actual DOF)
Bad at shooting if sun or lump appears in frame. It gives sharp flare, that repeats object at other place.
comment:Best for close up portraits, flowers. Best pairs aperture and softness is 2.8&0.5, 3.5&1, 4&2, 5.6&3 They makes pictures mild and increases DOF by comparison same apertures without soft effect.
I don't recommend this lens as a short tele lens or as a lens for really sharp images. Good copy of Sony 85 2.8 (Minolta is built mush better) is sharper at 2.8 and 4 and better bears contour light. At 5.6 sony is worse because of CA.
