comment:This lens rocks, and what everyone says about it is true. It provides very pleasing results - smooth, clear, natural images (something more aesthetic than just plain sharp - the Minolta look?). Focus is snappy and image performance stellar on a700 and a850, and well balanced to carry around in the hand. I wish the hood would not wobble when retracted; that's my only gripe (I've been told by a forum member that you can reverse it and lock it in place but I couldn't do this with mine).

It's worth considering whether you would prefer the flexibility of a zoom vs the small size, large aperture but fixed length of this lens; I guess that applies to any prime lens. I don't think you'd find a better result than from this lens. I feel I can completely trust the results it provides. I don't use it tons, but it would be hard to part with it.
