positive: | Good range for everyday use Sharp through most of range Colour at usual quality Flare not an issue |
negative: | Build quality questionable Hood very fiddly Some distortion Some vignetting |
comment: | The build quality is not up to the standard one usually gets from Minolta. The lens hood is a real p.i.t.a to fit/remove/reverse quickly & the location markers are so small as to be indistinct. I take great care using this lens as I feel certain that it will get "barrel wobble" as it ages. There is some distortion at and around 24mm but that is par for the course when this wide ( better than most ? ) so not to be knocked on this score. There is also the possibilty of vignetting when used wide, especially with a circular polariser on but again par for the course( am looking for a recessed Minolta version ) and never stack filters on it - took a couple of shots to see and did not like what I saw. Not had a problem with flare as far as I can see. This may all sound a bit negative but for what it is - a walk around everyday lens with good range - it is a very useful and worthwhile lens which will do a good job for that purpose. If your camera supports the D ( ADI ) function it makes the use of flash a doddle and is highly beneficial for indoor use when shooting "on the quick". |
