positive: | - colour, contrast, sharpness - front lens and focus ring don't rotate during AF - little distortion at WA - small and light |
negative: | - occasional flare in direct sun shots - a little CA in bright lit situation |
comment: | The 24-105 does a very good job as a perfect travel lens, having a useful zoom range which is even covering a bit the wide end on digital. On 7D the AF speed is good and the pictures are colourful and sharp - not as tack sharp as with good primes but overall better than with most zooms. It's one of the few lenses that I mostly have in my camera bag when going out for a walk. edit: I have to lower the build points due to the fact that for the second time the AF gearing got stuck during the use in cold temperatures. First time when the focus jammed the lens was about one years old and it still was repaired under warranty, now roughly three years later the same thing happend. Seems like there is a timer somewhere and my lens copy is a summer version only :-( |
