comment: | This lens is classic Minolta glass which gives it superb colour rendition. It's optical performance is very consistent, with no "bad spots" in aperture or focal length combinations. Wide open it is slightly soft, but stopped down to f/5.6 it is very sharp at all focal lengths corner to corner. All in all a very competent lens. It is my favored zoom lens right now for my Sony a700 DSLR until I buy something more suitable for the APS-C size sensor that is just as sharp. My 18-125mm Sigma does not compare well to this lens for colour or sharpness, but I use it when I absolutely need the focal length range. I sold my 24-105mm KM lens as the 24-85mm has better optical quality and less distortion. If you can live with the limited wide end on an APS-C sensor then it is an excellent lens choice. |
