ownership:I own this lens
compared to:minolta 24-50 f4, Minolta 35-70 f4

price paid:150. USD ( used)
positive:Sharp wide open, very sharp stopped down a bit. great color, weight and balance, petal hood, excellent auto focus on A700

negative:none so far
comment:I bought this lens a couple of months ago to replace my Minolta 24-50 f4 and my Minolta 35-70 f4. Both are fine lenses but, due to their limited range, I found my self constantly changing lenses to respond to unexpected photo opportunities.
The 24-85 is all I hoped it would be and more. In addition to exceeding the combined range of the other two, its IQ easily equals or bests both of them, and the color is as close to nature as I have seen. Coupled with my "75-300 f4.5-5.6 New" it makes a near perfect outdoor combo for nature and landscape photography at under $300. I could not be more pleased.
