comment:Ive only been using this lens on my A200 for a couple of days but compared to the kit lens this is in another league entirely.

Ive been considering an upgrade from my kit lens for a while now and, being on a tight budget knew Id be looking for second hand Minolta glass. I picked my "as new" lens up off ebay for a reasonable Ł100. Ive seen them sell without hoods for about Ł80ish and good examples sell for up to Ł130ish

The image quality, especially its sharpness, is good. Its a touch soft wide open but stop it down a little and it becomes very sharp, at f8-11 its very impressive and makes you realize how bad the kit lens actually is! My 50mm 1.7 is no better...

The build, which is a mix of metal and plasic is good and has a nice weight to it without feeling too heavy on your shoulder. The proper distance window is handy as well.

Im fairly new to DSLRs so my opinion and comments might not have as much weight as a more experienced reviewer, but if you are looking for a good value replacement for the standard kit lens then this is certainly worth considering, And please dont let the slight loss of the wide angle put you off, its still very useful on an APS-C.
