ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Tamron 17-50 f2.8
Minolta 35-70 f4
Minolta 35-105 Original
price paid:120 USD used
positive:Great build, mostly sharp stopped down a bit, non-rotating front element. Internal focusing.
negative:Extreme purple fringing wide open.
comment:This lens is very solid and well made, quite sharp if stopped down a bit and it has those wonderful Minolta colors.

The Tamron beats it for speed and sharpness (but of course the Tamron is an APS-C only lens)and the Minolta's beat it for sharpness.

This is a great range on film and really not bad on APS-C (36mm-127.5mm equiv.).

The only real concern with this lens is very distinct purple fringing at wide apertures in high contrast situations. I intend for this to be my walk around lens on my film body.
