|comment:||I find this a big improvement over the kit lens; sure you lose the 18mm wide angle, but I rarely use that and having more reach is a good tradeoff. While the size is almost identical to the 18-55, having 14 elements instead of 8 is bound to weigh more. |
Mine is tight, smooth and free of zoom creep so probably that's a wear over time problem exacerbated by the heavy front elements.
It's also sharp enough on the long end to withstand considerable cropping, which extends the usable range considerably. I'd put it in the contenders for the 'If I could only take one lens..' derby.
Nice colour and contrast; minimal CA, sharp from 4.5. A keeper.
