ownership:I have experience with this lens
compared to:Tokina 17mm ATX Pro
Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro
price paid:$180
positive:Small and light like 50/1.7
55mm filters
Fast internal focus
Great focal length (36mm equiv)
negative:-Slightly soft compared to my other primes
-Could use a larger aperture at this focal length
comment:Great lens, its the one most often on my 7D. Its really quite sharp, but on some subjects I do notice better performance from the 50 and 90mm lenses. Thats not surprising though, considering the comparison.

I often prefer this focal length to the wider 17mm, as it imparts less "wide angle look". When I used the kit lens that concept escaped me, I often cranked it all the way to 18mm without considering the "look" I was after.
