ownership: | I own this lens |
compared to: | GM 100-400 Sony GM 70-200 Sony |
price paid: | £700 |
positive: | Build quality, sharpness wide open, colour rendition and the case or trunk are all first rate. It's considerable easier to hand hold on my A7R and A9 bodies with LA-EA3 adapter. |
negative: | It's over 20 years old, used "screw drive" focussing so is slower and noisy compared to modern Zooms, let alone 300mm prime lenses [but they do cost £6,000]. When using a 5 pin 1.4x multiplier [and an adapter] I lose the AF but on my Dynax 9 works fine. |
comment: | I fitted an 82mm Polariser which improved the colour rendition in reflective areas.... I've also adapted Tamrom slot-in filter holder to fit and the 43mm filters that allows are readily available. The genuine Minolta 42mm filters are threaded for more of the filter depth and so are "slimmer" overall when fitted into the drop-in filter holder. |
