Low distortion
Great Bokeh
Long MFD
comment:This lens is amazing, but limited by two factors: The odd focal length range and the ridiculously long minimum focus distance.
On APS-C, it's much too long for wide angle shots, and much too short for telephoto. And the 1.5 meter MFD makes it almost impossible to use regularly indoors.
On full frame, the focal range is a bit better as a walk around lens, though it would still be preferable to have something wider than 35mm.
But within the range, the results are outstanding, especially considering the lens can be found for under $100. It's much sharper than kit zoom lenses, though not quite as sharp as the newest 2.8 zooms. It has the true Minolta colors with fantastic contrast. Very low distortion for a zoom lens.
I find it is nearly perfect for shooting outdoor portraits, especially if you don't want to be stuck with a fixed focal length of a prime lens.
