ownership:I have experience with this lens
compared to:Kit 18-70, 28-80 3.5-5.6, 28-80 4-5.6 Xi, 28-105 3.5-4.5 Xi, Quantaray 28-80 3.5-5.6
price paid:
positive:Very sharp, AF pretty fast, good build quality, relatively inexpensive, good value
negative:No AF in Macro mode
comment:I like these lenses a lot (see all 5's) but having cut down my keepers to avoid overlaps this one really doesn't fit in (as probably won't hold onto a 24-50/4 beercan's little brother but not tested yet). This is a lens that should be in any starters line-up (or the 28-135 macro but believe is rarer and more expensive)
