ownership:I have experience with this lens
compared to:- Min 18-200, Min 28-75D, Min 100-200, Min 100-300 APO
- (also some G's, but that's not a fair deal...)
price paid:traded : 2nd 100-200
positive:- really handy
- best Superzoom available for price and quality
negative:- MF mode tricky
comment:Truly a hidden treasure for digital! The image quality is far beyond that what we usually expect from xi-Motorzooms. Distortion, sharpness and contrast are quite good even if they are not catching up completely with the compared zooms. But for the given zoomrange the results are really good. I would (and have) discard the 18-200 for this lens. Usually I prefer changing my lens to the needed specialist (zoom and/or primes), but if I just can't change at all, this is my choice. AF is quite ok (faster and at least as precise as my 28-75 but noisier), Zooming takes getting used to it: the more you turn the ring, the faster the motorzoom is going... but after max. 10 minutes you know how to handle it. ManualFocussin is, well, just a mess...
Final Verdict: good value for little money
