ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Minolta MD 35-70/3.5 Macro
Sony SEL1855
price paid:39 USD (used)
positive:Sharp, esp. stopped down just a bit to f5. Not as sharp as MD35-70/3.5 but close. Great colors. AF reliable and reasonably fast on Nex with LA-EA2. Bokeh not bad. Didn't have any issue with flare so far, as long as not shooting straight into the sun. Tiny for a zoom lens. Switch activated Macro mode allows shooting from about 1 ft with manual focus.
negative:Not much. MFD is about 4-5 ft, can't take a photo of someone across a small table. Noisy screw drive AF so not for video but that's true for all Minolta lenses.
comment:If you can live with limitations of 35-70 focal range, definitely get this lens. MD version has better IQ but this one is very close (and I do own both) and is great for everyday use. I got mine from KEH and it didn't disappoint. I also ordered a cheap 49 to 55 mm step up ring is that I could share filters and hoods with the Beercan.
