ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Minolta 28-85 f3.5-4.5
Minolta 50mm f1.7
price paid:£25
positive:Small and light
Sharpish wide open
Good colours
Good FF walkabout

negative:Corners are a little soft wide open.
comment:A very handy little walkabout lens for FF users. Works well on my A850 and A99. Nice build and although sharpish at f4, it really improves by f5. A good practical focal range for FF and nearly as good as the 50mm prime (although not as fast in poor light).
I have had two copies of this lens, as the first one starting sticking at about f7.1 and although usable, the second one was so cheap, I decided to own it!
Comparing to the 28-85, it is a similar design with "reverse" zoom, but with the 70mm macro rather than the 28mm end.
I decided not to compare it to my copy of the MkI 35-105, as this lens is in a league of its own.
