negative:No SSM...
comment:You really need to nail the focus, but when you do so, it's REALLY sharp starting from F4.5! I've been using this lens for over a year now and generally shoot wildlife with it.
Recently, I got tired waiting for some kingfishers ever to appear, therefore I started shooting dragonflies with this lens. You would be amazed how sharp this lens is at MFD and F4.5! I shoot raw and only apply the same sharpening I apply to all my photos. I was amazed with its sharpness wide open!

It's a quick focussing lens in good light, it's handholdable and affordable.

It's quite a dilemma to choose between this lens and the 70-400...This lens is 2/3 stops faster, sharper but does not have the MFD of the 70-400, no SSM (focusses less precise...) and is heavier.
The 70-400 is more versatile, but this prime has some amazing optics!
