ownership:I own this lens
compared to:SAL300F28G2
price paid:£1,300
positive:Mega sharp, wide open.
Light.
Low price, second hand.
Works well with 1.4 converter.
negative:Colour not up to modern lenses.
Build, also old fashioned
comment:I would always recommend the lens is calibrated to the camera.
There are times when I think this is sharper than my 300mm prime.
Because of modern coatings, this lens ( made for roll film )is left behind.
I easy capture kingfishers in flight, and they are very sharp, so focus not too slow for me.
Compared with the Canon 400mm F4, In my opinion, Its sharper, lighter and cheaper. But the Canon focuses faster.
Sony need an A mount prime 400mm, But it would be about £7,000, and beyond some peoples budget.
