comment:I was expecting a very good lens. I was surprised how good this lens turned out to be. It is very close to my 200mm f2.8, and is equally good on my 580 as on my 850. Focusing is very fast, but I have to admit the focus limiting mechanism helps. I don't hesitate to shoot wide open, but one stop down helps a little. Its weight actually helps my stability when shooting BIF without my tripod.
Update-3/19/15: Have now compared with Sony 70-400 Mk1--the 400 4.5 is visibly sharper.
