compared to:-Sony DT 18-70mm F/3.5-5.6 (kit lens)
-Minolta 70-210mm F/3.5-5.6
-Minolta 24mm F/2.8

price paid:
positive:-Fast F/1.7
-Good bokeh below 2.2
-Decent sharpness at 2.8, good above it, even excellent at F/8.
-Decent build quality.
negative:-Not sharp below F/2.8
-Lacks contrast and sharpness at F/1.7
-Range not so useful in a cropped camera.
-Poor minimum focus distance, this results in a extremely poor macro performance.
comment:This lens has a good quality for 63 bucks, but it's definitively overrated, for a 50mm prime it's just decent.

At F/1.7 the bokeh it's quite nice, but lacks sharpness and contrast, the center is decent, but the corners are extremely poor.

At F/2.8 (stopped down) it gets better, the center quality is very high but the corners are just decent, probably a little poor.

At F/5.6 the result it's good, with a excellent center performance and decent borders.

At F/8 it delivers excellent results, it probably outresolves my Sony A200.

However, the 75mm equivalent range it's quite boring, it isn't large enough for being tele, not so good for portrait shots (but it's decent) and lacks the wide feeling from the far more versatile 50mm at film or FF cameras, tough I wouldn't hold my breath for using it with FF cameras, because it's more likely to be soft there.

The build quality is good, but the built in hood is pitiful and funny XD, the focus ring is sometimes uncomfortable, but I don't have big hands.

A decent performer, worst than the Canon and Nikon equivalents I tested with some friends, but far cheaper, overall, a good deal.
