ownership:I used to own this lens
compared to:50mm f/1.4 Sony
50mm f/1.4 Pentax Takumar (M42)
price paid:Ł85
positive:Cheap and plentiful
Sharp at f/2 or so
Good length for conventional portraits
negative:Min focus distance
Old coatings
Inconsistent AF
comment:Plenty sharp enough from about f/2
Sometimes the AF misses the mark - usually backfocuses wide open
This is not a macro lens
Good indoors but beware flare and double check your white balance. Sony 1.4 version seems brighter if a little cooler in colour.

I got a XX version which had seen a lot of action. There are plenty to choose from so you may as well hold out for a mint condition one.

Hood a bit daft and 49mm filter might not suit you.
Very good value for a dedicated portrait lens on a cropped sensor and the wide open softness can be useful and the bokeh is good
