comment:I have bought a few of these (which is why my price paid varies). The first one I found was $25 at a pawn shop. It was 2 days after I bought my Sony a200 and read that this was a great lens to get.
Well, I made the purchase and have loved it ever since. I've tried 3 different ones and they all produce the same results. Nice crisp, clean shots. It's great to have a cheap fast lens to get pictures of my little boy in available light.
I've never had any focusing issues. The colors turn out great. I use it mostly at 1.7 or 2.0 and most of the time, the sharpness is good to me. After all, you get a 1.7 lens to use in low light.

Compared to the Sigma 17-70, I couldn't pick a winner. They are 2 completely different lenses. If I need a low light lens, I'd pick the 50. Otherwise I pick the Sigma (because of the zoom ability).

If you can get this lens for around $100, then it's well worth it.
