compared to:Minolta 70-200/2.8 G SSM
Minolta 100/2.8 macro D

positive:die hard build quality
image quality
focusing speed
negative:non removable collar
1.8m close focusing distance
not compatible with minolta/sony APO converters
comment:Extremely solid build and overall great performer. I sold it after getting a good deal on a 70-200 SSM but not before doing some comparisons. Focusing speed is on par with the SSM in my experience. The SSM beats it with its close focusing distance (1.1 vs 1.8m) and image quality at close range and longer focal lengths (the 80-200 shows quite some spherical aberration at 200mm when focused below about 3m).
