Light and easy to carry
Feeble hood
No focus scale
comment:I'm not a lens expert and have nothing really good for comparision. I wasn't expecting much, but this kit lens was a pleasant surprise. Despite a bit of barrel distortion the wide end works well for landscapes. If I'm out expecting to use mainly a longer lens then I appreciate the light weight of the 18-70 to take along "in case". For what it costs in a "kit" outstanding value and well worth having.
Edit after nearly one year of ownership - I have used the wide end of this lens a lot over the summer for landscapes and other "scenics" at small apertures. It has given really pleasing results, even in direct comparison with the 24-105. A real gem!
