comment:I've owned their 50mm F1.4 EF mount prime for a few years and rather liked it though I mostly replaced it last year with the Samyang AF 50mm F1.4 FE. The Yongnuo was considerably sharper wide-open in the center than the Samyang, but has more lateral CA. The EF Yongnuo has very primitive autofocus which can work fine in many situations. I do't really like either of these as much as my former Sony FE 50mm F1.8. I've also tried several copies of the Minolta/Sony 50mm F1.4, each one progressively worse than the previous copy. I finally obtained a decent example of the Sonnar 55mm F1.8 ZA.

This lens has not been very popular or even reviewed much. A rather positive review by Marc Alhadeff persuaded to try it out. It focuses much better than their EF lens on their adapter. The focusing is similar to the Samyang and Sigma primes.

It feels just as substantial as the Sigma DN Contemportary primes, but with the addition of a nice wide rubber focus grip. Like the Sigmas it has a rubber seal at the mount. It looks similar to the Sony FE 35mm F1.8 and FE 50mm F2.8 Macro except with an extra focus hold button on top of the barrel.

Capture One thinks it is the Sony FE 50mm F1.8 and applies the Phase One created profile for that lens automatically.

It has slightly higher contrast, less vignetting, and a bit less spherochomatism than the Sony 55 F1.8 Sonnar. The foreground out-of-focus is more red than purple. Overall a very solid normal prime option,
