comment: | A new retail box silver Rokinon branded version with matching silver hood and fabric pouch. This is my third F1.2 lens. The previous ones were both 35's. I was fairly impressed with the Rokinon 35 F1.2 but decided to return it. I'd seen samples from this 50 on full-frame cameras, and the price was attractive. It shares the body with the 35 F1.2 but is slightly lighter. The silver finish is a decent match with my silver A6000. "MADE IN KOREA" Like the 35 F1.2, this lens is no brighter than F1.4 lenses. It is only about 30% brighter the Sony E 50 F1.8 OSS. The aperture has defined notches already at F1.4. The much cheaper Fotasy 50 F1.8 keeps a more circular aperture. It almost covers full-frame close-focus especially near F3.4. Even the small full-frame F1.4 lenses have less vignette. Full-frame corners are significantly clipped at infinity and fully stopped down. It seems to be the rear elements that cause the clipping. Like the 35 F1.2 the image quality degrades outside the APS-C crop. The Sony E 50mm F1.8 OSS has less chromatic aberration at the same apertures. This lens uses a unit focus design. The front shroud with the filter threads is attached to the body and doesn't move with focusing. A large reversible circular bayonet hood is included. The front shroud and hood don't seem to cause the vignette on full-frame. There is not much reason to use this on APS-C over the smaller, stabilized Sony. The Sigma 56 F1.4 DN Contemporary may also a better choice. |
