ownership:I used to own this lens
compared to:Sony SAL 18-70 Kit lens
price paid:$125 USD (New)
positive:Great range
Good walk around lens with a very usable range
Decent build and color rendition
negative:Some distortion wide open

comment:I bought this to use as a walk around lens on a trip to Israel. After using it for a couple of days, I went back to my kit lens for the remainder of the trip. I just wasn't as confident with the Sigma as I was with my trusty little Sony kitty. I have a marvelous version of the 18-70. It's nothing against the Sigma... I just wanted to have that extra confidence factor for this once-in-a-lifetime trip. (Like the golfer who keeps returning to their trusty old driver instead of their fancy new one.)

I traded it in on a Tamron 17-50 2.8.
