comment:Some of the reviews suggest this lens is rather mediocre - well my copy isn't. As sharp as the 17-35 and 21-35 from f5.6 and sharper than the Sony lenses at all focal lengths and apertures. My copy is usably sharp wide open at all focal lengths and sharpens up nicely with a little stopping down.

I looked for the soft edges and corners and it is no worse than many other zooms (some a lot more expensive) in this respect.

Wonderful colour and contrast even under grey overcast sky.

I can only think that sample variation and Sigma quality control explains this.

For the price, an extremely useful lens at a bargain price.
