positive:ultra wide lens on full frame
Good sharpness at 18mm
Well managed distortion
Cheap
Good AF
negative:Flare if you are not carefull
82mm diameter for hood
Not a fast lens
The colours are not worm enough like Minolta's one
comment:I bought this lens because is extra wide on full frame and accually I am happy to keep it. The colours are not to my taste but I easily corrected it on camera settings. Good and correct AF on day light and insight but is slow lens. Flear is visible if you take picture against sun but this is ultra wide lens and I expected this to happen. I used my hand to shade and had better pictures. I do not have hood for it and I am intending to buy one. The lens is not isolated so do not use it arround a lot of dust or rain. There are better ultra wide lenses out there but for 10-20 times the price which I think is ridiculous.

positive:price, FF ultrawide, good resolution, modest distortion, not much CA
negative:veiling flare, not-very close focus, some purple SA
comment:I have the identical Quantaray-branded version of this lens.

Although the glass seems clean, contrast is very low and it gives "clumpy" specular points and veiling flare -- it would be terrible on film. However, autolevels brings up the contrast and reveals excellent resolution across FF even wide open... maybe not enough for 24MP APS-C, but it is doing fine on 42MP FF. I know that doesn't sound like the other reviews here, but that's what I'm seeing -- so maybe it's a Q/C thing or maybe Quantaray branded ones are different? Anyway, price/performance is outstanding for a FF ultrawide zoom. Incidentally, no problems with AF using the LA-EA4 -- at least not after I cleaned the lens contacts with a pencil eraser.

I've posted a bunch of photos using my A7 and A7RII on DPReview; the A7RII ones are at https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/59321906

Ultra Wide Angle on FF
Manual Aperture Ring

negative:Sharpness
Vignetting
Manual Focus feel is not good
comment:Used on Nex5 + Lens Turbo as I was looking to get wide,
so no autocorrection of the lens from the camera.
Results are simply awfull. Not so sharp in the center, borders are a disaster. Vignetting is also pretty bad. Even with correction in SW it was impossible to get anything decent out of it. I guess this is why there is not much info on this lens on the web.

positive:sharp, very light, compact, range on APS-C
negative:82 mm filters
comment:This lens is pretty sharp even wide open and razor sharp above F8. My copy is actually pretty sharp at 18mm, corner to corner even at F3.5. Excellent performance for such a low-cost lens. This lens produces nice colours and contrast. In terms of value for money you would find it difficult to better this lens. On APS-C it's quite usable wide open because the corners aren't that important anymore. The range is very useful on APS-C. I'm very pleased with this lens. AF is faster then the AF from the minolta and sony kit lens.

Corner sharpness
comment:An inexpensive lens for the occasional wide angle shot on a full frame camera. Sharp enough in the center even wide open. Most parts of the image (except corners) are sharp enough stopped down to F8.

comment:Very pleased with this lens for general landscape work. Colors appear slightly deeper than my Minolta lenses. Much sharper than the kit lens, but not quite up to the F1.7 and definitly not the 35-105. But on my 6MP Konica Minolta will produce a good 13" X 19" print. A good addition for the price.

The Tamron is definitely sharper but apart from that there's not much to choose.

positive:Excellent sharpness & color

comment:Bought this lens on eBay because I wanted a lower-light capable lens but still wanted the wide-angle capabilities, and haven't been disappointed. I have used it both on my Sony a380 and on my Minolta Maxxum bodies; color is excellent, and at 18mm it is much sharper than any of the Sony lenses I have had. The only problem I have had is with flare, have had to use my hand to block the sun even when using the OEM lens hood.
Overall, a great companion lens for use with my 50mm 1.7 and 70-210 Beercan lenses, especially for the price.

Update: compared this with the Minolta 28mm 2.8, both lenses @ 28mm f:4.5 with flash, and surprisingly this blows away the Minolta for sharpness & color.

positive:Cheap, light, wide angle (esp on film) for taking photos in cramped spaces
negative:Build quality really is cheap and cheerful. Barrel distortion, loads of flare
comment:I bought this lens in a moment of madness and sold it again quickly. I thought a Sigma lens would be better than the Vivitar 19-35 that I got with my 7D. Boy I was wrong! This really is cheap and cheerful and it is no wonder that Sigma have superceded it with a better lens!
