ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Sony DT 16-50mm F2.8 SSM through LA-EA5 adapter
Sony 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS
price paid:467 Eur new
positive:Light and compact
Fast and silent AF
Center sharpness at normal distances
negative:Corner sharpness
Center sharpness at macro distances
comment:In general, the lens is less sharp in the corners on my A6600 than the Sony 16-50F2.8 SSM (with LA-EA5 adapter) which it was supposed to replace.
The Sigma has obvious advantages in weight, size, silent AF, video capability.
The Sigma also has shorter minimum focusing distance, the problem is, the sharpness (even in center) is abysmal in extreme closeups, unless stopped down heavily (F8). Even the Sony 18-135 OSS does a better job with macro-like shots.
In other words, it's a nice little lens especially for video, just don't expect miracles - I guess physics/size can't be fooled.

compared to:Sony 16-50 A-mount.
price paid:£400 new
positive:Lightweight, sharp, fast, small.
f2.8 throughout.
negative:All minor things:
Zoom goes the other way to most other lenses for Sony!
Lens cap when on reverse gets in the way of the zoom.
Focus ring a little slim - but rarely need it.
comment:Surprised I'm the first to review this.

Very very impressed with this lens. Hard to take a duff photo, AF is spot on, sharp throughout. Very lightweight, hardly know it's on the camera - and can pretty much drop it in your pocket when not using it. I often carry this and a samyang 12mm for the A6600 in my old camera bag that just about took my A77ii with Sony 16-50.

Plastic, but feels robust.

Keep meaning to do an image comparison between this and the Sony 16-50 A-mount with LA-EA5 adapter - but can't be bothered to get around to it, as this is so easy, lightweight and good, that even if there is a slight difference in image quality I wouldn't go back to the bigger heavier lens anyway.

Don't pay too much attention to my colour & distortion ratings - not sure what I'm meant to be looking for, and there's nothing that doesn't autocorrect on import to Lightroom.

Flare isn't too bad - but again, not really sure what I'm comparing it to. Better than on the old Minolta lenses, but probably not as good as the Sony 16-50. But I don't point it into the sun much!
