price paid: | 899 USD |
positive: | Very sharp. Quick, silent focus. Well built, smooth focus and zoom functions. |
negative: | Big and heavy. Only f/4. Significant vignetting wide open, especially at 105mm. Clears up completely by f/8. Funky OoF highlights. Busy, distracting bokeh when not wide open. |
comment: | This is such a good lens. I use it as my walk around lens on the a99II. Center sharp wide open, everything sharpens up by 5.6. As noted above, the vignetting wide open is a disappointment in a lens of this class. I actually sent it to Sigma to be checked out. The tech said all is normal. Comparing to the Minolta 24-015, the Sigma is much sharper and well built, but the Mino is so much easier to carry around! Considering the price, I'm not sure that the Mino wasn't good enough! |
