comment:I really love this lens very much: build is very good (though the zoom ring is too next to the body), right weight in my hands, nice Sigma EX finish, looks rock solid.

The minimal focus distance of 40mm is very useful, the range is good for a walk-around lens, (18 would be better of course), constant f2.8 gives you EV gain in low light.

About the IQ, I find the lens impressive at f2.8: it can keep up with the max aperture very well, not loosing the sharpness that noticeably. I find it sharper than the 50/1.7 at wide apertures. The bokeh it produces is quite good, colors are very good too (maybe a bit colder than Minolta).

AF is fast and accurate, this lens has proven me (along with the 50/1.7) that focus problems I had before buying this were more lens-related than I could think.
