ownership:I own this lens
compared to:Minolta 24-105mm
Tamron 18-200 XR Di II
price paid:265 GBP (new 2007)
positive:Sharp
Fast focusing
Build quality
Large manual focus ring
Close focus distance
negative:Soft at f2.8
Not discreet
Weighty
82mm filters are pricey
Alpha mount not HSM like Canon/Nikon versions
comment:I bought this lens because I wanted a quality, fast-focusing zoom for all occasions for use with my 5D - I think that the 24-70 has delivered on all counts; the shame of this lens is that its bulk and weight often make me think twice about it as a walk-around choice.
