comment: I got this lens a couple days ago and have taken shots with it. I used a Zeiss in the same range that a Sony rep let me use and this lens is sharper at 70mm fractionally.I think it as good as the Zeiss under most circumstances, that is my opinion. I have a Minolta 100 F2 that is sharper than either, but that is apples and oranges. It is a steal for the price. It is sharp+ wide open and can be a joy to wring bokeh out of using DOF and big aperture. Colors are similar to the Sony 70-400 SSM, gorgeous. I will update report as I gain experience with the lens.If you look around the flickr folder , there are pics of the element and camera mount. Thanks
Here is a pic of it on the trusty A100:

here is a sharpness test at 60mm:

Update: I think some of the other reviewers need to have their lenses looked at by Sigma. My copy still works very well. The Zeiss 24-70I originally used was returned and the 2nd copy I got to use was splendid. Ther is more chance of some reviewers getting a bad copy than the rest of us being liars. The Tamron is not more sharp than my copy, I own both lenses. I posted photos on flickr to indicate my personal experience.

Thanks,G
