negative: | coarse gearing prone to flare |
comment: | First impressions: A little soft wide open, but sharpens up quickly as you stop down. Given I'll mostly be using it at around f8 for landscapes/buildings sharpness will not be an issue. Distortion is well controlled, the colours are nice but lack the punch of minolta and have a slight yellow cast. It's well built but the AF gearing sounds coarse. Like many other sigma lenses I've tried it seems to be relatively prone to flare. For the money, absolute bargain for FF users. It's so compact & light it's practical to keep in your bag. EDIT: had the chance to compare it with a minolta 24mm, the 2 are very similar but the minolta has slightly sharper edges and nicer colour |
