compared to:tamron 28-200 superzoom XR
price paid:55 euro
positive:Very nice bokeh, good colours, nice to work with..
negative:slow AF, it feels heavy, too much 'plastic' feeling, zooming goes heavy (with mine) Af-issues..Very big diameter, cpl costs a lot at 72 mm! Slow, noisy AF..
comment:I bought this lens for about 55 euro, used. I loved it, especially the nice bokeh it gave me.. a few weeks ago, i started to have AF-problems, when zooming in at 200 mm from short distance, a rattling nouse came out of it..I still have it, but full-zoom is now impossible with this one..Yet, i still keep it, because of it's nice bokeh it gives..I keep shooting with it with MF... Good value for money. I feel really sorry it broke down..because i love it so much..

positive:Small, fairly light, full range of focal length, non rotating front ring
negative:Focus ring turns when auto focus used, large filter size
comment:I found this lens under the Quantaray name in a local camera shop.
I figured for the price I couldn't go wrong but I was very surprised at just how sharp the images are. Just one or two stops down from open and this lens really can preform very well. It is much sharper than the kit lens at all apertures. A fun lens for general use when you want to travel light

positive:Wide focal range
Decent macro capability
Compact size
negative:Mediocre image quality
Slow
Wide end not that wide on APS-C sensors
Plasticky
comment:This was my first lens for my KM Dynax 7D and with wide focal range provided reasonable way to determine what kind of lenses I would like to use. And since I have acquired other lenses which cover the same focal lengths (with much sharper picture and better colours) nowadays I have practically stopped to use it, so much that I have never mounted it on my α-700.

positive:price

comment:I bought this lens for $80 (USD) new, back when (last summer) there was a period when all KM stuff was cheap (like a new 7D w/ kit lens from Walmart for $700).

After hearing negative ratings for this lens, I thought I had made a mistake in purchasing it. But I was surprised how much I use it. I find it reasonably sharp, with good color. Very little to not like about this lens. It is compact, focuses well, and seems to be well built.

A bargain.

positive:Very sharp in center across a wide zoom range.
Nice handling qualities.
negative:Nothing to complain about considering the price and performance.
comment:I have tested this lens, and those listed above, using the Koren, 2003, (5mm) test charts to determine the resolution based on MTF-50. The following information is based on results from two of the sine-wave, test, strips; one horizontal near the center of the frame, and the other, diagonal, very close to the corner of the frame. The tests were made with a KM5D, hand held, image stabilization “on”, ISO 100, in bright sunlight so that the shutter speed was quick enough to satisfy the reciprocal of the focal length criterion. Results: (focal length/f-stop/lines per inch on an 8” x 12” print at center/ditto-at corner). (200/8/202/81), (200/5.6/154/63), (70/8/167/109), (70/4.5/123/64), (28/8/204/110), (28/3.5/112/71). My understanding of photo resolution quality is: >150 lpi=excellent, >110 lpi=very good, >80 lpi=good. I believe the corner results represent a pretty severe test since the test strip extended radially, and the region of interest was very near the corner. These very good results really surprised me! They compete favorably with the Baby Beer Can, and the Sigma is easier to carry and has a great zoom range. Photozone rates this as a very poor lens. Maybe, I just lucked out an have a very good issue. More details on this and other lenses can be found at: http://www.geocities.com/royanddee/lens_test_results_mtf50.htm

comment:My original assesment of this lens was that it was not ready for prime time. I mentioned my difficulties to SIGMA and was asked to send them the lens. I did so and received the lens back in a little over a week. The result was a much improved lens, in terms of sharpness, grain and color. I reccomend that anyone who is unhappy with a SIGMA lens should contact SIGMA and let them know.

positive:At the time of purchase, this lens had about the widest range available at an affordable price.
negative:It was awful
comment:Bought as a "travel" lens, it was stolen (along with a 505si Super body) from my hotel room in Italy on its first outing.
Incredible luck - saved me from being lumbered with it and losing money on part-exchange (the insurance paid up).

The films shot with it were fuzzy, barrel distortion at the wide end and the colour was odd.
