compared to:Sony 16-105
Sigma 70-200 f2.8 ex if
price paid:130 GBP
positive:Great as an on body daily lens for all you need
cheap
negative:soft
slow af, hunts
comment:This was the first lens i bought. I was blinded by the focal range, which is the main reason i bought this lens.
It's compact and useful if you're going on holiday and can only take 1 lens. you can do family snaps, wildlife and macro (albeit 1:3) with one lens!

However, you pay for that reach with sharpness & af speed, which aren't very good at all.

If you're after a general lens to have on your camera every day, but not too worried about the IQ then this lens is great. If you're after this range but want the IQ to be great then you're probably going to need a CZ24-70 followed by the 70-300g ssm. but that'll cost you close to 1500gbp which is slightly more than 130gbp!

comment:Perfect Walkaround lens, not very sharp and not very good in low light condition, but this what you would expect from a lens with this range and price.

price paid:au$125.00
positive:Very little in a positive sense unfortunately, other than low initial cost. Many outlets have been heavily discounting them.
negative:It is soft all through its range, it is slow focusing and hunts even in good light. Not a lens worth having. I certainly won't be keeping it - it is already up for sale.
comment:It is like many "fits all sizes" lens solutions - no solution at all. Unless you pay an extraordinary amount of money the performance of these "super" zooms is woeful. Even the more expensive cannot beat the performance of several smaller length zooms - the only thing that they offer is convenience. The ability to use one lens and avoid lens changes.

comment:this lens spends most of its time on my a200 perfect walkabout lens.
its also 8 pin and syncs with my sony flash HSS
nice and sharp - beercan has better colour but not the range
if you are looking for a walkabout lenst i would reccomend the sigma without reservation.

compared to: Minolta 100-300mm f:4.5-5.6 AF macro zoom 55mm
Vivitar 100-400 series 1 f:4.5-6.7 AF zoom 67mm
price paid:129 USD (new)
positive:It's on my camera about 50% of the time. For me it's almost the ideal "snapshot" lens. It gives very nice colors and was the only lens that allowed me to shoot nice fairly sharp free hand near full frame (including 2x converter!) full moon pictures.
Comes with a macro lens.
Fallen several times, no damage at all. not even a scratch.
Never noticed any CA at all.
Was developed for film camera.
negative:It's a bit heavy, focusses a bit slow. I would prefer a larger aperture.
A bit soft at both ends of the zoom range.
Its shade is no luxury ;-)
comment:Mine is titanium colored and has the text DL Hyperzoom.
Bought on Ebay from a powerseller, 129$ was buy now price!
