ownership:I used to own this lens
compared to:Minolta 28-135mm 4-4.5
price paid:USD239.00 (Used)
positive:Price is definitely a positive.
Stopped down it has very good image quality.
negative:Too slow, at its best apertures.
comment:I think having had the Minolta 28-135mm 4-4.5 before this lens, gave me a very high bar to measure this lens by. The particular 28-135mm I owned was incredibly sharp, right from f4. So while it was sort of slow at that aperture, it was perfectly usable at that aperture.

This Sigma on the other hand was really only useful in bright day light, with ISO speeds that keep the aperture in its prime range, between f7-8 to f13. Again, my expectations were probably far too high when I bought this lens.

As for colour rating, I really don't know. Any review I post, I give a 5; 99% of my shooting is black and white film, so I just don't know.

Update 2012 -
