comment: | This is my second used copy of this lens purchased from individual sellers on eBay. I returned the previous one since the left side was very mushy. This one is better aligned. There is less asymmetrical glow along high contrast edges and the corners look somewhat even. "LENS MADE IN JAPAN." This lens has a great deal of focus plane curvature and chromatic aberration. It certainly doesn't fit the macro designation other than the fairly close focusing ability. It does fairly well for portraiture. The background rendering is quite nice unlike the Minolta wide primes which make a mess of out-of-focus areas. Perhaps misalignments help smooth out-of-focus rendering? The older, smaller Sigma 28mm F1.8 High Speed is much sharper as is the slightly newer APS-C Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC. This lens is grew on me. The Sigma EX lenses may not often be as sharp as their current Art series, but they have nice rendering and are much more affordable. |
