ownership:I own this lens
compared to:18-55 kit Sony
70-300 minolta
price paid:250USD
positive:Very fast lens for good price
negative:the finish has become sticky and i had to clean it with alchohol, thought it in no way harmed the optical qualety
comment:I have got this lens a month ago and had used it quite a lot very good IQ and nice build.

For the price i paid it is a very fast lens with amazing sharpness and good colors.

It works perfectly on the Sony A33 and A55 despite the wornings i have seen on the forums.

compared to:Tokina ATX-840
Tamron 70-300 Di LD MAcro
price paid:Trade for a Flash
positive:Build like a tank, internal focusing, Good range, good weight
negative:Internal contruction is a bit weak. Very, Very, VERY! slow on a film camera like the Maxxum 7
comment:For the poeple with a small budget but who like a good quality lense.

I'm surprised by the result with my a700

but with a film camera, the result are a lot better but with a very slow AF

I will probably use this lens for extreme condition photography because of is toughness

compared to:KM 75-300 / 4.5-5.6 D
price paid:200+ eur (ebay)
positive:Cheap alternative for Sigma 70-200/2.8, well build
negative:Heavy, to soft at F2.8, slow and noisy AF
comment:Overall a very good piece of glass when stopped down to F4-4.5. To soft at F2.8 so I only shoot at F2.8 in very low light conditions combined with a high ISO value. AF is very noisy and slow but fast enough for normal every day shooting. If you can get it cheap it's worth the money.

compared to:Beercan, big beercan
price paid:400USD(used)
positive:Sharp as perfect from the F4-6 range to wide open, as you say "built like a tank"
negative:Weight, and a special softness at 2,8, AF doesn't function at certain light, half sun/shadow specially, lazy AF often
comment:A splendid lens for the price, despite the relative non-macro possibilities (need 1,8 meter), but razor sharp when closed a little, the softness at 2,8 can be a + for people who make theater or spectacle pictures because it gives a "Hamilton" effect, and not something bad with flowers too.
For me a good buy.
