positive:Extremely Sharp, even at 2.8
Fast autofocus.
Prefocus/focus limit settings on the lens.
negative:Doesn't make me pancakes??
comment:As you can see I've owned quite a few similar focal length lenses, and this one absolutely blows them all out of the water. I did a side by side comparison of this lens and the Minolta 400 F/4.5 for sharpness. At f/2.8 (wide open) it was sharper then the Minolta at F/8, and this is despite the Minolta having the slight advantage of a longer focal length.

comment:I have finally managed to save up and buy this lens, and I have been blown away by the image quality. I have been very happy with the IQ of the 70-400mm, though I often wished it could focus faster. Playing with this lens today has shown the focus speed and accuracy is amazing on the A77 and A99. It's weight means that some support is necessary, either a monopod or tripod.

I have had this lens for well over a year now, and still love it. While it is heavy to carry about it has been to the UK and the Pacific NW, as I love what the lens can give me. The A77ii focus tracking has opened up yet more capabilities.

I have just been using this lens on the A99ii and am stunned by the improvements over the A99. Focusing is incredibly fast and the capability of the camera to make huge crops is amazing.

comment:I have owned the original 300G mk1 for a couple of years.
At the time it was excellent. Technology has moved on the MK 2 is made for the digital cameras, the difference is huge.
It nails every shot pin sharp. The photos have amazing detail.
Used with The A99 it cannot be bettered. O well I said that about the MK1 and am now proved wrong.
