comment: | I do not know why QuietOC states it is similar to 54mm on full frame, as it is similar to 52.5mm according to Sony.nl My use case for this lens is: take it with me when I want a lens in between a wide angle and a tele lens in my bag. So, it is not used that much , but it delivers when I do use it. There is nothing really outstanding about the lens, both good nor bad. It is sharp enough, but I know better. Colour is nice, but I have seen better. The strengths of this lens are size, weight and OSS. All in all it is a nice package. If 50mm is your street focal length, an A6x00 camera with the 35/1.8 OSS is a wonderful package. It is also a better offering then the full frame 35/1.8 as that is much more expensive without OSS while heavier and also better then the 28/2 as that lens is no better, bigger and lacks OSS. The 35/1.8 OSS is a nice lens to have in your bag when you need something in this focal range. I am sure the best zooms like the 16-55/2.8 are better, but at a cost. |

positive: | Size and weight Optical stabilization Quiet, fast focusing |
negative: | Axial CA Misalignment Wavy distortion Wavy focus plane Tiny hood Not available in silver |
comment: | A clean but well-worn copy with original hood, caps, and packaging (white box). Wear is quite visible against the black anodized coating. Like the 20 F2.8 this lens is also not available in the silver finish. The regular retail price is $450 with occasional $400 sales. "Made in China" On the A6000 it is equivalent to about 54 mm F2.8 on full-frame. There are no full-frame 5x mm lenses with optical image stabilization, but there are several stabilized full-frame 35 mm lenses. This copy shows a directional glow on sharp edges that probably indicates an alignment issue much like many of the Sigma lenses I've returned. A better aligned copy would likely be sharper. I am going to generously rate this a 4. My copy of the Zeiss Touit 1.8/32 is much sharper. The stabilization system seems to be quite effective, so even with the optical problems this copy seems to be a good choice for general use. The stabilization system makes faint ringing noises. Focusing is quite fast. AF-C works fairly well across the frame though the A6000 still seems to choose focus targets in wide-area semi-randomly. The much deeper circular ALC-SH116 hood from the E 50 F1.8 OSS fits and reverses on this lens and doesn't vignette. I am not sure why it comes with the little ALC-SH112 petal hood from the 18-55 OSS kit zoom instead. |

positive: | Sharpness from f2.8 and color, OSS Small and light Familiarly tight MF ring |
negative: | Soft wide open |
comment: | My biggest problem was no OSS on 24/1,8 CZ. I decided after few years patient waiting to buy 35/1,8 OSS, as my feeling was, that there will be no 24/1,8 lens with OSS for aps-c or aps-c body with IBIS. Lovely small lens for low light shooting and for jacketable combo. OSS can bring shutter speed easily up to 1/10s. If to take more shots, 1/5s can give enough sharp shot too. MF ring feels familiarly tight compared to 24/1,8 CZ. When right position selected, it stays better on position. Can be, that 24/1,8 MF ring was more tight when I bought it in 2012, but so it is for now. Lens is sold. My copy has been not good enough compared to 24/1,8CZ and I have used 35/1,8 OSS too little compared to 24/1,8CZ, despite to idea to use it's OSS. |

positive: | - overall IQ - size - OSS - built quality |
negative: | - CA - sharpness could be better - "onion" pattern in OOF bright spots |
comment: | A wonderful example how to make decent, small and reasonably priced lens (especially second-hand - Sony, we need more such lenses!). Prone to heavy CA in certain situations but overall IQ is great. Also suffers from "onion" bokeh (probably due to use of aspherical element). |

comment: | Depending on how much post-capture sharpening you're willing to do, this lens is usable at f/1.8 and not bad at f/2.2. At f/2.8 and smaller, this is one sharp lens. |

positive: | This lens stayed on my camera (a6000) more than any other lens. I'm a teacher, and I mostly take photos of active children, both indoors and outdoors. - F/1.8 aperture - OSS - Fast and accurate autofocus |
negative: | I didn't really like the way it rendered skin tones. It didn't matter if I left it in AWB or set white balance myself--grey card, kelvin, preset. Anglo skin came out with too much yellow and Latino skin with too much red. I got tired of having to tweak almost every photo it in Lightroom. I compared it to the Rokinon 85mm F/1.4 I use for portrait work to make sure it wasn't the camera. With AWB, the Rokinon renders perfect skin tones almost every time. Slight distortion and vignetting which are a one-click fix with the camera profile in Lightroom. |
comment: | I loved this lens for everything except for the way it rendered skin tones. I sold it and bought the Sony FE 28mm F/2 lens for nearly the same price. Better skin tones but more barrel distortion (easy fix). |

positive: | Small, light, sharp, very sharp from F5.6, F1,8, built in OSS, pleasant feel, well built. |
negative: | A little soft at F1,8. |
comment: | The focal length is 52.5 mm on APS-C cameras, hence the comparison to the "fifties". Better than the Minoltas and getting close to the Sony-Zeiss. This 35mm lens is the third and indispensable of my travel gear (two cameras/ three lenses). Perfect walkaround lens. Overall: If you are in E-mount/APS-C - a must have! |

comment: | On APS-C E mount cameras this lens gives the "normal" field of view of a 50mm lens. It's small and light, has a reasonably fast aperture, and OSS. The OSS can work very well - I have achieved photo with shutter speeds of around 1/8-1/15s with good technique. Optically, it is very good overall, and probably better than the Sony 50mm for A mount. There is a little veiling which creates slight softness at full aperture, but it sharpens up nicely from around f2.2. As I use it as an available light lens, it's difficult to comment on the resolution across the frame, but I can't say I've seen any big problems with edges of the pictures. Again, as a result of how I use it, I haven't noticed any big problems with colour fringing, though there seems to be a little. Flare control seems surprisingly good, and perhaps is of the general veiling type (rather than bright point spots of flare). The focusing is generally quick on PDAF enabled cameras. Overall, a very good lens. Just don't expect incredible sharpness at full aperture, but it's entirely useable. |

positive: | Small, sharp, OSS for video, excellent build quality. |
negative: | Nothing really, maybe a nicer/more suitable hood as this is the same hood as 18-55 kit. |
comment: | Great lens, very useful everyday focal length although it can still be a bit tight at times indoors. When compared to Sigma 30, sharpness at same apertures was about the same. 35mm OSS had better flare control and was quiet when focusing. If your camera nails the focus, it is sharp in the central area even wide open. Stopping down to f/2.2 give a nice bump in sharpness and contrast. Currently my most used lens, stays on the camera most of the time. |

comment: | Wonderful lens for E-mount APS-C format. I like this focal length for its versatility, and previously covered it with DT 35/1.8 SAM on a55 and also on NEX-3. I discovered eventually that I was using the lens on NEX more than on a55 which usually had the fantastic 16-50/2.8. So, with upgrade to NEX-6, I replaced DT 35/1.8 with the more expensive E 35/1.8 OSS. Excellent lens, and perhaps a must have... although the price has held well for 1.5 years or more. I got mine during a brief discount by Sony. |

comment: | I dont like this lens. Too soft at 1.8, helps a ton stepping down to 2.8, even 2.2 is a huge improvement. Super sharp at f4, light drop by 8. The a3000 is less kind as your will see a drop in sharpness over the NEX standard 16mp. Auto focus might be helped by the new sensors with phase detect. Examples (Graded) https://plus.google.com/115067742716599094489/posts/adssqHkUZL9 UPDATE I have tested this lens on the A7. Works very well in APS-C mode, less good in full frame. IN FF you will be cropping a lot but you get get a 18-20mp file out of it |
