positive:This lens is compact light weight, its AF-D compatible. Its high IQ, and Minolta colours. Its Bokeh is outstanding.
negative:The lens isn't weather-sealed, and uses a dated screw driven AF system. Its a little soft between f/1.4, and f/1.8.
comment:I've used this lens for three years, its one of my personal favourites, and when used properly it can easily produce stunning results.

This lens is almost always attached to my A850, and its an excellent investment, and worthy alternative to the newer overpriced 50mm Zeiss.

Its colour rendition is rich, vibrant, skin tones are pleasing. This is a great lens for taking pictures of people. The bokeh is generally excellent, at f/1.8 and higher.

Its sharpness between f/2.0 and f/8 is excellent, and low-light performance is equal to its competitors, however it's slightly soft, and light fall-off is (barely) noticeable between f/1.4 to f/1.8 like all other "nifty fifties".

Its screw driven AF is dated, and is need of replacement. Its optical solution should be updated. With a updated AF system, and optics this lens could easily outperform the Zeiss.
